How the budget entries add up: Grand Palace THB 500 × 2, plus a Phi Phi speedboat trip at about THB 1,700 and the THB 400 national park fee × 2 = THB 5,200, or about ₹14,920.
Bangkok–Krabi flights: fares start from about THB 870 one-way. Four one-way tickets (two people, both directions) are THB 3,480, or about ₹9,990. Checked baggage usually costs extra on budget airlines.
Visa and arrival card for Kolkata travellers
Indian passport holders are included in Thailand's visa-exemption programme for short tourist stays. Check the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs entry list immediately before departure because the permitted stay can change by government notice.
You must fill in the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within 3 days before arrival, only at tdac.immigration.go.th. See our Thailand visa for Indians guide for the documents to carry.
How to get to Thailand from Kolkata
Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport has flights to Bangkok taking about 2h 35m. Return fares in our checks were ₹17,210–24,764 per person. Most flights land at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang.
Kolkata has one of the shortest flight times to Bangkok of any Indian metro, which makes Thailand a realistic 5–6 day trip from the city.
For Krabi, take a domestic flight from Bangkok (flight time). If your international flight lands at Suvarnabhumi and the Krabi flight leaves from Don Mueang, allow time for the transfer between airports.
Day-by-day route
| Day | Plan | Night |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Fly Kolkata–Bangkok; evening street food | Bangkok |
| Day 2 | Grand Palace, Wat Pho, river boat, night market | Bangkok |
| Day 3 | Shopping or a free day, using the BTS day pass | Bangkok |
| Day 4 | Fly Bangkok–Krabi; evening at Ao Nang | Krabi |
| Day 5 | Phi Phi speedboat day trip | Krabi |
| Day 6 | Fly Krabi–Bangkok, connect to Kolkata | — |
Day 6 needs care: book the Krabi–Bangkok flight with enough gap before your Kolkata flight, and on the same ticket if possible.
Getting around Bangkok and Krabi
In Bangkok, the BTS Skytrain costs THB 17–65 per trip, or THB 150 for a day pass. Stay close to a BTS station and you can skip most taxis. In Krabi, budget travellers use songthaews (shared pick-ups) and mid-range travellers use taxis or arranged transfers.
Best time to visit Thailand from Kolkata
November to February is the coolest, driest period in Bangkok and on the Andaman coast around Krabi. From May to October, the Krabi side gets the southwest monsoon, and boat trips can be cancelled in rough seas.
For Kolkata travellers, the period after Durga Puja and before Christmas is worth checking for lower airfares.
How to cut the Thailand trip cost from Kolkata
- Book the cheapest return fare early. The gap between ₹17,210 and ₹24,764 per person is about ₹15,000 for two.
- Buy the BTS day pass on busy days. At THB 150, it pays for itself after 3–4 rides.
- Eat street food. Dishes cost THB 40–100, far less than malls and hotel restaurants.
- Carry only cabin bags on the Krabi flight. Checked bags add to the low fare.
- Use the official TDAC website only. The card is free; paid look-alike sites charge for nothing.
- Skip Krabi if you have 4 days. A Bangkok-only trip removes the domestic flights and one hotel change.
Our recommendation
For most couples from Kolkata, 6 days split 3+2 between Bangkok and Krabi is the right length: enough time for the Phi Phi trip without rushing. With visa-free entry and a 2h 35m flight, a careful couple can do it for under ₹1 lakh. Compare the cost with our Bali trip cost guide if you want an island honeymoon instead.
How should you compare the final prices?
Fix the international dates first and compare the complete return fare for both adults. The lowest screen may exclude checked baggage or use awkward hours. Because this route also needs Bangkok–Krabi flights, write all four domestic passenger sectors on the same sheet before choosing the international booking.
Check the airport code on every Bangkok flight. Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang are on different sides of the city, and a self-transfer needs road time, baggage collection and a fresh check-in. A slightly higher same-airport connection can be better value on a six-day trip.
Price three Bangkok nights and two Krabi nights with taxes. In Bangkok, walking distance to rail matters; in Krabi, confirm whether an island tour collects from the hotel. A cheap remote room can create daily transport charges that exceed the saving.
For food, keep a daily cash amount and one allowance for a special dinner. Street stalls and food courts can make the budget column realistic, while riverside restaurants, rooftop venues and hotel dining fit the higher columns. Bottled water, coffee and snacks should stay in the food row.
List every paid activity once, including the Grand Palace and island trip, and state whether park fees are included. Then add insurance and calculate the 10% buffer. If weather changes the boat plan, keep the unused activity money rather than treating it as automatic shopping spend.
How does the budget change by travel style?
The budget column depends on lower airfares, simple rooms, rail in Bangkok, local meals and one major Krabi boat tour. The mid-range column allows better-located hotels, checked bags and more taxis. Premium creates room for higher-category resorts, private transfers and restaurant spending; it does not mean every day needs an expensive excursion.
Solo travellers should not halve the table because the room and some transfers are no longer shared. Families need to price room capacity, child fares and tour age bands separately. If Bangkok matters more than the beach, removing Krabi cuts two domestic flights and a hotel change.
What should you carry?
Keep passport copies, insurance details, hotel addresses and the TDAC QR code offline. Carry a mix of payment card and Thai baht for markets, food stalls and small transport. Use a card that explains foreign-exchange charges, and decline dynamic conversion to rupees when the terminal offers it unless you have compared the rate.
For the Krabi boat day, carry sun protection, water protection for the phone and any personal medicine. Confirm what the operator supplies and follow weather instructions. A cancelled tour should create spare budget and time, so keep a Bangkok or Krabi alternative that does not depend on the sea.
Check that the passport name matches each domestic booking, because corrections can cost more than the original low fare. On arrival, use official airport transport, rail or a clearly priced app ride, then learn the local route before buying a multi-day pass.
Check all four air sectors with the same baggage allowance. The domestic Bangkok–Krabi fare can look very low before a checked bag, seat and payment fee are added. If the international flight uses Suvarnabhumi and the domestic flight uses Don Mueang, allow a generous road-transfer margin or choose a same-airport connection.
For Bangkok hotels, compare the tax-inclusive room price and walking distance to a BTS or MRT station. A room that saves ₹800 a night may cost more in taxis. In Krabi, decide between Ao Nang convenience and a quieter location only after checking pickup coverage for the island tour.
Boat-tour prices should state the national-park fee, hotel transfer, lunch, snorkelling equipment and weather policy. Rough seas can change or cancel a route, so do not schedule the main excursion on the last possible day.
How can couples keep the budget predictable?
Withdraw or exchange enough cash for markets, small restaurants and local transport, while keeping a card for hotels and larger purchases. Agree on a daily food allowance rather than treating every meal as incidental. Bangkok street food can keep costs low, but riverside restaurants and rooftop bars change the daily total quickly.
Submit the TDAC free on the official site within three days before arrival, including the arrival day. It is an arrival card rather than a visa. Read the Thailand visa for Indians guide, then compare the route with the Dubai trip cost from Mumbai and Bali trip cost from Bengaluru.
Leave room in the luggage for purchases rather than paying for another bag on the return sector. Keep the final airport transfer outside the sightseeing plan, check the terminal before leaving the hotel and retain enough baht for the journey.
