Itinerary

Thailand 6-day itinerary: Bangkok with Pattaya or Krabi

The best Thailand 6-day itinerary for most Indian travellers is 2 nights in Pattaya and 3 in Bangkok, linked by a 2-hour road transfer, at about ₹1.02 lakh for two on a budget from Delhi. Couples who want better beaches should do 3 nights in Bangkok and 2 in Krabi instead, adding a 1h 20m domestic flight and a Phi Phi day trip. Both routes work best from November to February, and Indians currently need no visa for stays of up to 30 days.

Key takeaways

  • Route A (Bangkok + Pattaya) suits families, groups and first-timers: no domestic flight.
  • Route B (Bangkok + Krabi) suits couples: better beaches and the Phi Phi islands, for a higher cost.
  • Do not try to fit Pattaya and Krabi into one 6-day trip; you lose a full day moving.
  • Fill in the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within 3 days before you land.

Day 1: arrival and the road to Pattaya

Most flights from India land in Bangkok early in the morning. Go straight to Pattaya, about 2 hours by road from Suvarnabhumi (BKK). Budget travellers can take the airport bus to Pattaya for about THB 130–150 a seat; families do better with a Grab or pre-booked car at about THB 1,200–1,800. Check in, rest and walk along Beach Road at sunset.

Day 2: Coral Island and a show

Koh Larn is about 45 minutes by public ferry from Bali Hai Pier, or 15–20 minutes by speedboat. Tawaen and Samae beaches are the most popular; Samae is calmer. Package tours with lunch and a water activity cost about THB 800–1,200. Come back by 16:00, then see the Alcazar or Tiffany's cabaret in the evening (about THB 800–1,000 a seat).

Day 3: Sanctuary of Truth and back to Bangkok

The Sanctuary of Truth is a huge carved wooden temple by the sea, still being built. Day tickets are about THB 500 for adults and THB 250 for children; cover your shoulders and knees. Leave for Bangkok after lunch and spend the evening at a night market such as Jodd Fairs.

Day 4: Bangkok's temples

Reach the Grand Palace (THB 500) when it opens at 08:30; it gets hot and crowded by 11:00, and a strict dress code applies. Walk to Wat Pho for the Reclining Buddha, then cross the river on the small ferry from Tha Tien pier to Wat Arun. In the evening, take a Chao Phraya dinner cruise or go to Chinatown's Yaowarat Road for street food.

Day 5: Safari World or markets

Families should go to Safari World (about THB 1,000 online, THB 1,500 at the counter), which needs most of the day. Others can go to Chatuchak Weekend Market on a Saturday or Sunday, or to MBK and Siam Square. Asiatique on the riverside is good for an evening walk and dinner.

Day 6: shopping and departure

Pratunam has wholesale clothing and many Indian restaurants. Leave for the airport 3–4 hours before your flight; Bangkok traffic is unpredictable.

Route B: Bangkok and Krabi in 6 days

Route B day by day
DayPlanNight
Day 1Land in Bangkok; rest; evening street food and a night marketBangkok
Day 2Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun by river boatBangkok
Day 3Shopping or Safari World; BTS day pass (THB 150)Bangkok
Day 4Morning flight to Krabi; sunset at Ao NangKrabi
Day 5Phi Phi speedboat day trip (about THB 1,700 + THB 400 park fee)Krabi
Day 6Fly Krabi–Bangkok; connect home—

The Phi Phi day trip usually picks up from Ao Nang hotels around 08:00 and returns by 17:00, stopping at Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon and snorkelling points. If the sea is rough, swap it with the 4-island tour to Railay and Phra Nang, which uses longtail boats and stays closer to the coast.

On Day 6, leave at least 3 hours between the Krabi flight and your international flight, and check whether both use the same Bangkok airport. Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) are about an hour apart by road. Some airlines also fly Krabi to Indian cities via Bangkok on a single ticket, which protects your connection.

Getting around

Bangkok's BTS Skytrain costs THB 17–65 a ride, or THB 150 for a one-day pass. River ferries on the Chao Phraya link the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun and avoid traffic. In Pattaya, baht buses on the Beach Road loop cost about THB 10. Grab works in all three places and is easier with children or bags. Thailand drives on the left, like India.

Best time for a Thailand 6-day trip

November to February is cool and dry in Bangkok, Pattaya and Krabi, and the sea is calm for island trips. March to May is the hottest period; Songkran (the water festival) is in mid-April. From May to October, the Andaman coast around Krabi gets the south-west monsoon and boat trips may be cancelled in rough seas. Pattaya, on the Gulf side, is less affected, though September and October are wet there too.

What to skip if you have only 4–5 days

  • 4 days: Bangkok + Pattaya only, with 2 nights each. Skip Safari World and the Sanctuary of Truth.
  • 5 days: Route A, dropping Safari World.
  • Do not add both Pattaya and Krabi to a 6-day trip; you will spend a full day just moving.

Practical tips for Indian travellers

  • Carry a return ticket and hotel bookings; immigration may ask for them.
  • Vegetarians can say "mai sai nuea sat" (no meat) and ask for no fish sauce; Indian restaurants are common in all three places.
  • Temples require covered shoulders and knees; carry a light scarf or wrap.
  • Exchange some baht in India or use an ATM in Thailand; Thai ATMs charge a fee of about THB 220 per foreign card withdrawal.

Our recommendation

For families and first-timers, choose Route A: no domestic flight and easy days. For couples, Route B is worth the extra cost for the Phi Phi day. Either way, read the Thailand visa for Indians guide before you fly, and if you are still choosing a country, see Bali vs Thailand.

Frequently asked questions

Are 6 days enough for Thailand?

Yes, for two places: Bangkok with either Pattaya or Krabi. Add Phuket or Chiang Mai only if you have 8 days or more.

Should I do Pattaya or Krabi with Bangkok?

Pattaya for families and groups, since it is 2 hours by road. Krabi for couples who want better beaches, at the cost of a domestic flight.

How far is Pattaya from Bangkok?

About 150 km, or 2 hours by road from Suvarnabhumi airport or central Bangkok.

How much does the Phi Phi day trip cost from Krabi?

About THB 1,700 per person for a speedboat tour, plus a THB 400 national park fee.

Do Indians need a visa for Thailand?

Not for tourist stays of up to 30 days under the current rule, but the free TDAC is mandatory. Check the official site before you fly, as rules change.

Which is better first, Bangkok or Pattaya?

Pattaya first, then Bangkok, so you do your shopping at the end and stay close to the airport for the flight home.
