What each level means. Budget uses a simple hotel near a Metro station, the official GDRFA visa, the Metro and non-prime Burj Khalifa tickets. Mid-range uses a 3–4 star hotel, an agent visa at about AED 500 each, prime-time Burj Khalifa tickets and some taxis. Premium uses a 5-star stay, private transfers and upgraded activities.
How the entries add up (budget, for two): Burj Khalifa At the Top non-prime AED 173 × 2, Dubai Frame AED 50 × 2 and a standard evening desert safari AED 149 × 2 = AED 744, or about ₹19,510.
Visa cost for Mumbai travellers
Indian passport holders need a tourist visa for Dubai unless they qualify for visa on arrival through another valid visa or residence permit. Applying through GDRFA costs AED 200 + 5% VAT, which is AED 210 or about ₹5,510 per person. Travel agents and airlines usually charge AED 400–600 all-in (₹10,490–15,740) because they add service fees.
Processing takes about 48 hours, but apply at least a week before you fly. Read our Dubai visa for Indians guide for the documents checklist.
How to get to Dubai from Mumbai
Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has non-stop flights to Dubai taking about 2h 55m. The cheapest one-way fares we saw were ₹11,724–14,354 per person. Several airlines fly the route daily.
Fares rise sharply around Diwali, Christmas and the New Year week. If your dates are flexible, compare midweek departures; they were usually cheaper in our checks.
Day-by-day route
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Fly Mumbai–Dubai, check in, evening at the Dubai Fountain and Dubai Mall area. |
| Day 2 | Burj Khalifa At the Top, Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park, evening in Old Dubai: abra across the Creek and the souks. |
| Day 3 | Morning free or beach at JBR; afternoon pick-up for the desert safari. |
| Day 4 | Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah viewpoint, shopping. |
| Day 5 | Check out and fly back to Mumbai. |
Book Burj Khalifa for a non-prime slot if you are on a budget: AED 173 against AED 250 for prime sunset times. For two people, that saves AED 154, about ₹4,040.
Getting around Dubai
The Dubai Metro costs AED 3–7.50 per trip in Silver class, depending on zones. The Red Line covers the airport, Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, Marina and JBR, which handles most of this route. Desert safaris usually include hotel pick-up.
Taxis are useful late at night or with heavy shopping bags, but they add up quickly. Mid-range travellers usually mix the Metro with a few taxi rides.
Best time to visit Dubai from Mumbai
November to March is the most comfortable period for sightseeing outdoors. June to September is very hot, so most of the day is spent indoors; hotel rates often fall in summer.
For Mumbai families, the Diwali and Christmas school holidays are popular, so flights cost more then. Late January and February usually balance weather and price.
How to cut the Dubai trip cost from Mumbai
- Apply for the visa yourself through GDRFA. AED 210 against AED 400–600 through an agent can save ₹10,000 or more for two.
- Use the Metro. At AED 3–7.50 a ride, it is far cheaper than taxis for the main sights.
- Book non-prime Burj Khalifa slots. You save AED 77 per person against prime.
- Stay near a Red Line station. Hotels in Deira or Bur Dubai are usually cheaper than Downtown or Marina.
- Eat in Karama and Al Barsha. Indian and Pakistani restaurants serve full meals for much less than mall food courts.
- Avoid festival weeks. Flight prices from Mumbai around Diwali and the New Year can be much higher than in late January.
Is Dubai worth it for a Mumbai family?
For most couples and families from Mumbai, Dubai works as a 4–5 day trip because the flight is under 3 hours and the main sights sit on one Metro line. The trade-off is cost: even a budget trip is about ₹70,000 per person, roughly the price of a mid-range domestic holiday. If your budget is under ₹50,000 per person, compare it with our Thailand trip cost guide, where visa-free entry and cheaper food lower the total.
How should you compare the final prices?
Start with dates, because they control the airfare and room price more than the label attached to a budget. Search the complete Mumbai–Dubai return journey for both adults, then record the final amount after baggage. If one fare is changeable and another is not, keep that difference visible instead of comparing only the first screen.
Next, price four hotel nights for the same room and occupancy. Check breakfast, cancellation, tourism fees and the nearest Metro station. A lower room price may still be a good choice, but a long taxi journey twice a day can remove the saving.
Build the activity row from exact slots. The Burj Khalifa price changes by time, while safari inclusions vary by operator. Add the Dubai Frame, abra and any observation-deck or theme-park choice once; do not count a combination ticket and its separate attractions together.
For food, set a daily amount for two and decide which meals matter. Breakfast included with the hotel reduces the row, while a brunch, beach club or fine-dining evening raises it. Keep drinking water, airport meals and snacks in the same category so small purchases do not disappear.
Finally, verify the visa price for each traveller and add insurance before calculating the buffer. The 10% reserve belongs after every planned cost. If an actual flight is ₹6,000 higher than the sample, replace the flight row and recalculate instead of quietly reducing food or transport.
How does the budget change by travel style?
The budget column works when flights are booked at the lower end, the room is outside Downtown, most journeys use public transport and paid sights are limited. The mid-range column gives more room for a central hotel, taxis and two or three ticketed experiences. Premium assumes a higher-category hotel and more private transport, but the exact hotel choice still controls much of the difference.
Families should rebuild the table for their room occupancy and child ticket ages. A family room can be better value than two rooms, while attraction and visa charges remain per person. Solo travellers cannot simply halve every row because the room and many taxis are not shared.
Before departure, save flight, visa, insurance, hotel and attraction confirmations offline. Check the passport name on every booking and keep one payment card separate from the main wallet. A clear daily allowance for meals and local travel is more useful than guessing every small purchase in advance.
Compare all flight choices with the same checked-baggage allowance, seat selection and card charges. A fare that looks lower can cost more after a bag is added. Check both Dubai International and Al Maktoum only when the onward transport still suits the itinerary; the airports are not interchangeable for a short city break.
For hotels, use the tax-inclusive price for two adults and four nights. Dubai's tourism charge is normally collected per room per night and varies with hotel category, so confirm whether the booking screen includes it. A lower Deira or Bur Dubai room can save money, but allow for Metro time to Downtown and the Marina.
Timed attractions need the exact date and slot. Burj Khalifa prime periods, weekend demand and combination tickets can change the payable amount. For a desert safari, compare the pickup zone, dune drive, meal, entertainment and seating rather than the name of the package.
Where can you save without spoiling the trip?
Use the Metro for airport, Downtown and Marina journeys, then reserve taxis for places with awkward connections. Eat some meals in Karama, Bur Dubai or food courts and keep one restaurant meal as a planned experience. Free time around the Creek, souks, beaches and Dubai Mall balances the paid attractions.
Keep the 10% buffer untouched until flights, visa, hotel taxes and timed tickets are paid. Luggage, card conversion and airport meals otherwise absorb it quickly. Read the Dubai visa for Indians guide, then compare this total with the Bali trip cost from Bengaluru and Thailand trip cost from Kolkata.
Also check roaming or eSIM costs and the hotel deposit policy. These smaller items affect how much cash or card limit you need on arrival. Keep the emergency reserve separate from shopping money and confirm the final airport transfer.
