What each line includes

Ferries

The budget line assumes the cheapest seats: the slower ITT Majestic (about ₹800 a seat, about 3 hours) or the government ferry when you can get a ticket, and economy class on private catamarans for the other legs, about ₹1,000 a seat on average. Mid-range assumes premium seats on Makruzz, Nautika or Green Ocean at about ₹2,500 a seat per leg, including the Havelock–Neil and Neil–Port Blair legs. Premium assumes the top class on every leg.

Government ferries run by the Directorate of Shipping Services are much cheaper but have limited seats, and many are reserved for islanders, so most visitors use private ferries.

Stay

Budget means guesthouses and simple beach huts at about ₹2,500 a night. Mid-range means 3-star resorts at about ₹5,500, and premium means beach resorts on Havelock at ₹15,000 or more. Havelock is the most expensive island; Port Blair is cheapest.

Entries and activities

Budget covers Cellular Jail (₹30), the light and sound show (₹300), snorkelling at Elephant Beach and boat transfers there. Mid-range adds a try-scuba dive at Havelock, which usually costs about ₹4,500–6,500 a person with a short boat trip and an instructor. Premium adds a glass-bottom boat or sea walk and a second dive.

Local transport

Port Blair sightseeing is done by cab or auto. On Havelock and Neil, scooters are the cheapest way around, at roughly ₹500–700 a day with a valid driving licence; e-autos and cabs work for those who do not ride.

Flights from Kolkata to Port Blair

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata has more flights to Port Blair (Veer Savarkar International Airport) than any other Indian city, about 90 a week. The non-stop flight takes about 2h 10m–2h 25m. Air India Express fares start around ₹5,331 one-way, and its fare calendar for July 2026 ranged from ₹5,331 to ₹20,663.

The table assumes ₹6,000 per person each way on a budget and ₹8,000 mid-range. Book 4–6 weeks ahead for December, when winter school holidays and Christmas push fares up. Early-morning flights connect best with the afternoon ferries.

There is also a passenger ship from Kolkata to Port Blair, run by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, which takes about 3 days at sea and sails only a few times a month. It suits only travellers with a lot of time and a taste for sea journeys.

Book ferries as soon as your flights are fixed: the morning departures sell out in season, and missing a ferry can mean losing a hotel night. Carry a printed or digital ticket and ID; check-in closes about 30–45 minutes before departure.

Keep a gap of at least one night between your last ferry back to Port Blair and your flight to Kolkata. Ferries are cancelled in rough weather, especially from May to September.

Best time to visit Andaman from Kolkata

October to May is the season. January to March has the clearest water for snorkelling and diving. December has peak crowds and hotel rates. June to September is the monsoon: ferries are cut back or cancelled on rough days and most water sports stop. For month-by-month detail, read best time to visit Andaman.

For Kolkata travellers, the weeks after Durga Puja and before Christmas, and late February to March, usually give good weather without December's peak prices.

How to cut the Andaman trip cost from Kolkata

  1. Book flights early. The gap between ₹5,331 and ₹20,000 one-way is large.
  2. Skip Neil if you have 5 days. It saves one ferry leg and one hotel change.
  3. Rent a scooter on Havelock and Neil instead of hiring cabs, if you hold a valid licence.
  4. Snorkel from the beach at spots such as Neil's Bharatpur instead of paying for boat trips every day.
  5. Book economy ferry seats. The crossing is short; premium seats mainly buy more legroom.
  6. Travel in late February or March for good weather without December prices.

Our recommendation

For most couples and families from Kolkata, 6 days covering Port Blair, Havelock and Neil is the right length. At about ₹72,000 for two on a budget, the Andamans cost less than most international beach trips from Kolkata, with no visa. If you are weighing it against an overseas trip, read Andaman vs Maldives and compare with the Thailand trip cost from Kolkata.
