Singapore trip cost from Chennai: 5 days for two, visa to Sentosa

A 5-day Singapore trip cost from Chennai for two adults is about ₹1,44,000 on a budget, ₹2,48,000 mid-range and ₹5,29,000 premium. That covers return non-stop flights of about 4 hours, the Singapore e-Visa, 4 nights' stay, MRT travel, food, Gardens by the Bay, Universal Studios and a 10% buffer. Singapore works all year, and staying in Little India is the easiest way to keep to the budget figure.

What each line includes

Entries and activities

Budget (S$264, about ₹19,850): Gardens by the Bay Flower Dome and Cloud Forest (about S$53 × 2) and Universal Studios Singapore (about S$79 × 2; prices are dynamic and rise to about S$89 on peak days).

Mid-range (S$440, about ₹33,090): the same, plus the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark observation deck (S$32 × 2) and the Night Safari (we budgeted S$56 × 2; the official non-resident list price is now S$58).

Premium (about S$900): express passes at Universal Studios, the S.E.A. Aquarium, a Singapore River cruise, and dinner at a rooftop restaurant.

Free sights save a lot: the outdoor Supertree Grove and the Garden Rhapsody light show (19:45 and 20:45), Merlion Park, the Marina Bay waterfront light show, and the Jewel Rain Vortex at Changi cost nothing.

Stay

Our planning rates are about S$120 a night for a basic double in Little India or Geylang, S$250 for a 4-star near an MRT station, and S$550 for Marina Bay or Orchard Road. Singapore hotel rooms are small, and rates rise in June, at Christmas–New Year, during Chinese New Year and on Formula 1 race weekends.

Food

Hawker centres and food courts are the key to Singapore on a budget. An Indian meal or a plate of chicken rice costs about S$5–8, and Little India has many vegetarian restaurants serving thalis, dosas and biryani for S$8–15. Restaurants in malls and on Marina Bay cost S$25–60 a person. Our budget line is about S$75 a day for two, mid-range S$150 and premium S$375.

Flights from Chennai to Singapore

Chennai International Airport has non-stop flights to Singapore Changi on IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Singapore Airlines and Scoot. The flight takes about 3h 50m–4h, and Singapore is 2h 30m ahead of India.

One-way fares were seen from about ₹10,300; return fares typically run ₹18,000–40,000 depending on the airline and how early you book. Budget carriers charge separately for checked bags, while Singapore Airlines includes 30 kg in economy. Low-cost fares rise sharply in the last week before departure.

Chennai has strong family and business links with Singapore's Tamil community, so flights fill up around Pongal, Deepavali and the summer holidays. Book 6–8 weeks ahead for those dates.

Singapore visa for Chennai travellers

Indian passport holders need a visa. The e-Visa is issued only through authorised visa agents: you submit Form 14A, a photo and a passport valid for at least 6 months, with your flight and hotel details. From 1 January 2026, the fee is ₹2,100 plus a ₹1,300 agent service charge, and processing takes 3–5 working days. You must also submit the free SG Arrival Card online within 3 days before arrival. Full details are in our Singapore visa for Indians guide. Rules change, so check the official Singapore sources before applying.

Getting around Singapore

The MRT reaches almost everything. Adult fares are S$1.28–2.57 a ride, and any contactless Visa, Mastercard or Amex card works at the gates at the same fare (your bank may add a small foreign transaction fee). The Singapore Tourist Pass costs S$17 for 1 day, S$29 for 3 days and S$45 for 5 days. For most couples, tapping a card is cheaper than the pass unless you ride more than 6–7 times a day.

For Sentosa, take the MRT to HarbourFront, walk into VivoCity and take the Sentosa Express monorail (S$4 to enter Sentosa; rides within the island and back are free). You can also walk the Sentosa Boardwalk for free in about 15 minutes.

Best time to visit Singapore from Chennai

Singapore is warm and humid all year, at about 25–32 °C, with short showers most months. November to January is the wettest period (north-east monsoon), and February to April is usually drier and sunnier. The June school holidays, Christmas–New Year and Chinese New Year bring crowds and higher hotel rates. For Chennai families, the May summer holidays are a good fit, as is the Pongal break if you book early.

How to cut the Singapore trip cost from Chennai

  1. Stay in Little India. Cheaper hotels, Tamil and South Indian food at local prices, and MRT stations on two lines.
  2. Use the free sights. Garden Rhapsody, the outdoor Gardens by the Bay, Merlion Park, the Marina Bay light show and the Jewel Rain Vortex cost nothing.
  3. Tap a contactless card on the MRT instead of buying a Tourist Pass you will not fully use.
  4. Eat at hawker centres. Meals cost S$5–8, a fraction of mall restaurant prices.
  5. Book Universal Studios online, on a weekday, outside peak periods, when dynamic prices are lowest.
  6. Carry only cabin bags on a budget airline if you are not planning big shopping.
  7. Walk into Sentosa on the boardwalk instead of paying for the monorail.

Singapore with children from Chennai

For a family of four, the visa cost stays low (about ₹13,600 for four), but Universal Studios, the zoo and the Night Safari add up quickly. Children under 3 enter most attractions free. Our Dubai vs Singapore guide has a full family-of-four estimate of about ₹3.65 lakh from Chennai.

Our recommendation

For most couples from Chennai, 5 days is the right length for Singapore, and staying in Little India keeps the trip near the budget figure of about ₹1.44 lakh for two. Families deciding between destinations should read Dubai vs Singapore. For a cheaper beach trip from Chennai, compare Andaman vs Maldives and our Kerala trip cost from Chennai.
