Dubai 5-day itinerary for first-timers

This Dubai 5-day itinerary covers Old Dubai and the souks, the Dubai Frame and Burj Khalifa, a desert safari, Miracle Garden and Global Village, with one main activity a day so you are not rushed. It works best from November to March, when days are 24–28 °C. Entry tickets for the plan cost about AED 800 per couple on a budget, and the whole trip is about ₹1.57 lakh for two from Hyderabad with flights and visa.

Where to stay for this itinerary

Pick one hotel for all four nights; moving hotels wastes half a day in Dubai. For this plan, the best bases are:

  • Deira or Al Rigga: cheapest, on the Red Line from the airport, next to the souks, many Indian restaurants.
  • Bur Dubai or Karama: good for families, near Al Fahidi and Meena Bazaar, on the Red and Green lines.
  • Al Barsha: mid-range hotels near Mall of the Emirates; quicker to the Miracle Garden and the beach.
  • Downtown: the most expensive, but you can walk to the Burj Khalifa and fountains.

Hotels add a Tourism Dirham fee of about AED 7–20 per room per night, paid at check-out.

Day 1: Old Dubai and the souks

Most flights from India land in the morning or around midday. Take the Red Line Metro from Terminal 1 or 3, or a taxi if you have heavy bags, and rest after check-in.

In the late afternoon, go to the Al Fahidi historical district in Bur Dubai: narrow lanes, wind-tower houses, small museums and cafés. Walk to the Bur Dubai abra station and cross the Creek on a traditional abra (wooden water boat) for AED 1, paid in cash. On the Deira side, walk through the Spice Souk and the Gold Souk. Souks are busiest and most pleasant after sunset.

Dinner: Indian, Pakistani and Kerala restaurants in Meena Bazaar and Karama serve meals for AED 15–30.

Day 2: Dubai Frame, Burj Khalifa and the fountains

Start at the Dubai Frame (AED 50) in Zabeel Park in the morning, when queues are shorter and the light is good for photos of old and new Dubai. It takes about 1–1.5 hours. Take a taxi to Downtown (about 15–20 minutes) or the Metro to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station.

Book Burj Khalifa At the Top online in advance: AED 173 for a non-prime slot and AED 250 for the prime sunset slot (levels 124 and 125). Morning slots have clearer views and fewer people; sunset slots sell out first. Allow 1.5 hours including queues.

Spend the afternoon in Dubai Mall, which has the Dubai Aquarium tunnel (free to view from outside) and plenty of food. After dark, the Dubai Fountain show runs every 30 minutes from about 18:00 to 23:00, and the waterfront promenade is free. Afternoon shows are also held at about 13:00 and 13:30.

Day 3: Desert safari

A standard evening desert safari costs AED 149–250 and usually includes hotel pickup between 14:30 and 15:30, about 30–45 minutes of dune driving, a camel ride, sandboarding, a show and a barbecue dinner, returning around 21:00. Premium safaris use smaller camps and limit group sizes; private safaris cost more.

Keep the morning free: the drive is tiring, and some people feel car-sick on the dunes. If you have energy, spend a few hours at Jumeirah Public Beach or Kite Beach, with a view of the Burj Al Arab.

Families with small children, pregnant travellers or older parents should choose a safari without dune bashing; ask the operator before booking. Vegetarian food is available at most camps; ask when you book.

Day 4: Miracle Garden or the beach, then Global Village

Dubai Miracle Garden (AED 100 adult, AED 80 child, plus VAT) opened its 2026–27 season on 8 October 2026. It is best in the morning, before it gets warm and crowded; allow 2 hours. It is in Al Barsha South and needs a taxi (about 20 minutes from Al Barsha, 30–40 from Deira). Couples who prefer the sea can spend the morning at JBR beach instead.

Rest in the afternoon, then go to Global Village in the evening. Season 31 opened on 14 October 2026, with tickets at AED 25 on weekdays and AED 30 on weekends and public holidays. It has pavilions from about 90 countries, an India pavilion, food stalls, shows and rides. It is about 25–35 minutes by taxi from Downtown, longer from Deira; RTA also runs buses from some Metro stations. Plan 3–4 hours.

Day 5: Shopping and departure

Use the last morning for shopping close to your hotel: gold in Deira, textiles and electronics in Bur Dubai and Karama, or a mall. Leave for DXB at least 3 hours before an international flight. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 serve different airlines, and Terminal 2 is not on the Metro, so check yours.

Buy a Silver Nol card (AED 25 including AED 19 of credit) at any Metro station for each person. Metro fares are AED 3–7.50 a trip by zone. Eating and drinking on the Metro is fined, and there is a women-and-children carriage at the front of each train.

What to skip if you have only 3–4 days

  • With 4 days: drop the Miracle Garden. Do Global Village on Day 4 evening and keep Day 4 morning for the beach or shopping.
  • With 3 days: Old Dubai on Day 1, Burj Khalifa on Day 2, safari on Day 3. Skip the Frame, the beach and Global Village.
  • Abu Dhabi (Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi) needs a full day; add it only on a 6-day trip.
  • Museum of the Future was temporarily closed from 1 September 2026 for an overhaul. Check the official site before planning it; when open, tickets have been about AED 169.

Adapting the plan for families and couples

For families, add a theme park day or swap the safari for a dune-free version, and put an indoor stop (a mall or aquarium) in every afternoon. For couples, add a dhow dinner cruise at Dubai Marina on Day 2 or Day 4, and choose the sunset slot at the Burj Khalifa.

What will this itinerary cost?

Our recommendation

Five days is the right length for a first Dubai trip. Keep Day 1 light, put the Burj Khalifa on Day 2 so a hazy day can be swapped, and do Global Village on a weekday evening. If you are choosing between Dubai and Singapore for a family trip, read Dubai vs Singapore.
